There are two types of literature that Shurley English introduces to students in the Literature Selections: contemporary and non-contemporary. To help students relate to the authors, a biographical sketch accompanies each selection. And to help them more fully understand the poems and prose selections, a series of discussion questions follows each story and poem. In addition to the study of contemporary and non-contemporary works, literature vocabulary is also introduced.
