Description
"The Ransom of Red Chief" is a tale of comic terror as two desperate kidnappers are victimized by the wild antics of their captive freckled wildcat." The unwitting "victim" and his shrewd foreclosing father pull a classic O. Henry switch that counteracts the ransom scheme and alters the meaning of the title. As you read, watch for the contrasts between expectation and outcome that prepare the way for the final irony.
